Ndolo calls for more investment to unlock Kenya’s boxing potential

Ndolo says unlocking this potential requires greater investment in young talent and a stronger pathway linking amateur boxing to the professional ranks.

He has called for regular competitions and increased opportunities for young boxers to gain international experience, arguing that professional boxing can provide a pathway out of hardship for many talented athletes.

“Let us elevate sports—especially boxing—because the future of the sport will be strengthened if we restore the prestige of professional boxing by ensuring monthly competitions and providing young people with opportunities to compete abroad, thereby transforming their lives and lifting themselves out of hardship.” Said Ndolo.

Ndolo also highlighted the emergence of promising female boxers, saying some have already won championships and have the potential to progress to the Commonwealth and world stages.

“We have had young girls—some of whom have already clinched championships in various categories—who will soon rise further to win titles like the Commonwealth and, eventually, world titles; their bank accounts will have money, and that is exactly how it should be.”

He stressed that the development of professional boxing must begin with a strong amateur foundation, urging stakeholders to invest more in training young boxers.

“Therefore, our request is that our children receive proper training at the amateur level, because if we don’t have good amateurs, we cannot have good professionals.”
