Ndindi Nyoro hits back at Ruto over opposition agenda, outlines 2027 priorities

People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) leader Ndindi Nyoro has hit back at President William Ruto’s criticism of the opposition, insisting that the opposition has a clear agenda focused on addressing the challenges facing Kenyans.

Nyoro said the Kenya Kwanza administration should concentrate on fulfilling the promises it made to voters instead of questioning the opposition’s plans ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a press address on Tuesday, Nyoro said the opposition’s agenda includes reforms in education and healthcare, job creation, improved security and measures to stimulate economic growth.

He challenged the government to account for its performance, arguing that it was elected on the basis of specific promises to Kenyans.

“Tunataka wale wako serikalini, wakiongozwa na President William Ruto, mko na agenda ya kutimiza kwa Wakenya. Na agenda ni ile mliahidi Wakenya, but to a large extent you’ve been unable to fulfill your own agenda,” Nyoro said.

The Kiharu Member of Parliament accused government leaders of shifting their focus to the opposition instead of addressing the challenges facing Kenyans.

“Na sasa tunawaona kwa mikutano ati mnarushia sisi wa opposition maneno ya agenda,” he added.

Nyoro said the PPK party would prioritise free education if the opposition takes power, saying the policy would take effect from January 2028.

“Sisi kama opposition tunasema elimu ya Kenya itakuwa bila malipo from January 2028 ukishaondoka,” he said, in reference to President Ruto.

He also pledged an overhaul of the healthcare system to ensure Kenyans can access services more effectively, alongside an aggressive job-creation agenda targeting young people.

“Tunalia mambo ya afya ikuwe inatumikia Wakenya vile inafaa; na tuko na agenda ya kucreate kazi kwa Wakenya na vijana wa Kenya,” Nyoro said.

The PPK party leader maintained that the opposition does not need lessons from the government on developing an agenda, insisting that its priorities are already clearly defined.

“Mambo ya agenda, sisi kama People’s Party na opposition, the government can only learn from us, there’s nothing they can tell us about agenda,” he said.

Nyoro further called on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to apply its mandate impartially, saying accountability should extend to political leaders regardless of whether they belong to the government or opposition.

He also urged opposition parties to overcome their differences and unite behind a single presidential candidate and running mate ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to Nyoro, a united opposition would give voters a clear political alternative and improve its chances of mounting a serious challenge to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

He said the People’s Party would continue mobilising around what he described as a practical agenda centred on improving the lives of ordinary Kenyans.
