Ndindi Nyoro calls for opposition unity to oust Ruto in 2027

People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) leader Ndindi Nyoro now says opposition leaders must set aside personal interests and unite if they are to succeed in unseating President William Ruto in the upcoming general election.

Speaking during a rally to popularize his party in Wote town, Makueni County, the Kiharu MP accused President Ruto of failing to govern the nation effectively, vowing that the opposition will ensure he is removed from office.

Nyoro, who announced his bid for the presidency in the 2027 election, promised that if elected, he will guarantee free education, improve healthcare, and strengthen the economy.

“Sisi kama PPK tunasema, tunashikana mkono na vyama vyote viko upinzani, na nimepata nafasi ya kupatana na all the principals wa opposition na lazima tukiamua ni kusonga tunasonga. Na tushikane mkono sisi wote,” said Nyoro.

His call comes even as United Opposition leaders have also pledged to work together to unseat Ruto come 2027.

The MP who recently unveiled his party after ditching the President Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to join the opposition faction has been facing criticism from a section of opposition leaders, especially from the Mt. Kenya region, who accuse him of being a mole in the opposition.

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has sustained that his party is the only political outfit to beat in the Mt. Kenya region, urging residents not to be swayed by the growing number of political parties seeking to establish a foothold in the region.

DCP Secretary General John Methu had earlier taken aim at Nyoro's new party, accusing President Ruto of using emerging political parties to divide the Mt. Kenya region ahead of the 2027 elections.

“This wheelbarrow that is coming from Murang’a, we know you had a wheelbarrow coming. We know there is another wheelbarrow that is coming from Laikipia and Nakuru as you try to divide this mountain. Bring them on. A wheelbarrow is a wheelbarrow and it will be dealt with like the other wheelbarrow,” Methu stated.

Nyoro has, however, dismissed the claims, maintaining that his fallout with the Kenya Kwanza administration and Ruto was due to his refusal to participate in the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“It is crystal clear that we parted with this government a long time ago. I have been in the opposition. What I have not done is join octane politics,” Nyoro stated.
