An expeditious manhunt following the fatal shooting of a police officer in Nakuru has led to the arrest of suspected gang members linked to the murder.

The officer was shot dead during a patrol at Free Area, Nakuru town on Sunday when he was ambushed alongside his two colleagues, who were left injured.

This prompted a joint operation by detectives, leading to the arrest of seven suspects as reported by the National Police Service (NPS).

The report indicates that three suspects were arrested at the scene while four - William Nyairi Rioba, Nyari Nyamwara Maluke, Emmanuel Mwita and Catherine Nkatha Zakayo - were flushed out from a lodging in Tahidi area.

After interrogations, they led the officers to where an AK-47, believed to be the used murder weapon, was found.

The injured officers are receiving treatment at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.

Eariler, a report from the Bondeni Police Station noted that the suspects were also found with four mobile phones, assorted SIM cards, bus tickets dated May 25, 2025 under Mwita Emmanuel to Kehancha and Kisii and a motorcycle.

"The officers also revisited the scene where the two officers were shot and one was cut on the left hand with a panga. Three 7.62mm spent cartridges and one 9mm cartridges were recovered," read the report in part.
