A section of youth across Nairobi have decried delays in the national Identity Document replacement process over the last few weeks due to system issues at the GPO Huduma Centre in Nairobi.
Speaking outside the NSSF headquarters in Nairobi, where they had gone to submit their complaints, the youth argued that the lack of IDs has inconvenienced their daily routines.
Some say they fear losing their jobs
after repeatedly requesting time off to follow up on their applications.
They noted that the absence of identification documents has
locked them out of several opportunities, including access to government
offices, voter registration and making various applications.
Director of the National Registration Bureau, Aggrey Masai, however, assured them that immediate action is being taken to restore the systems.
He also dismissed claims that ID replacement fees could be
reintroduced next year, noting that the scrapping of the charges led to a surge
in new applications, particularly in rural areas.
