Nairobi Water boosted their chances of climbing further up the Kenya Handball Federation league table after a commanding 37-12 victory over Daystar at the Nyayo National Stadium

Going into the match in third place with 14 points, the side used the win to strengthen their title chase and maintain pressure on the teams above them.

Over the years, Nairobi Water has remained one of the strongest sides in the league, consistently showing experience and composure in crucial matches.

Assistant coach Thodosia Sangoro praised the players for their performance, saying the team looked sharp and focused even before the match began.

“From the warm-up, I could already tell the girls were prepared and ready for the game, and today they really made us proud,” said Sangoro

He added that "the team executed their tactics well throughout the game, which played a key role in their dominant victory over Daystar."

Attention now shifts to their next fixture against defending champions Uulinzi Sharks next Saturday, a match Sangoro expects to be more challenging despite the confidence gained from the win.

“It will not be an easy game, but we will carry forward the same tactics and fighting spirit we showed today because I believe the girls are ready for the challenge,” Sangoro added.

Sangoro also revealed how he keeps the players motivated during the season, saying he constantly reminds them that Nairobi Water are former champions and must continue showing that quality on the court.

However, he pointed out some of the challenges affecting the team, noting that several players are also staff members, making it difficult to balance work and training sessions. He called on the management to improve support for the players in order to help the team perform even better.

Brenda Ariviza, who plays in the backcourt area, stood out as  Nairobi Water’s best performer. Ariviza credited the team’s victory to proper training and teamwork, saying the players remained focused throughout the match.

“What helped us today was the way we trained and how we worked together as a team,” she said. She added that although they expected to win the match, they had anticipated a tougher challenge from Daystar.
