Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced the establishment of several public viewing arenas for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), starting this Sunday with Harambee Stars’ match against Zambia at Kasarani Stadium.

The initiative, implemented in partnership with communications firm PARROT, aims to give residents unable to attend matches in person an opportunity to watch them in designated fan zones. One such zone, already operational at the National Archives, can accommodate about 500 spectators and will remain open throughout the tournament.

“Not everyone can fit in Kasarani, so we’re bringing the action to the city,” Governor Sakaja said, noting that the spaces are intended to broaden public access to the games.

According to City Hall, the National Archives site has been fitted with paving, lighting, and other facilities to support evening matches. Security personnel will be deployed to manage the crowds and ensure safety.

Additional fan zones are planned in collaboration with the National Government at Uhuru Park, Jacaranda Grounds, Dandora, and other locations across the city.

The zones will feature large screens and remain open for the duration of CHAN 2024. Entry will be free.
