The Nairobi County Assembly has approved an amendment paving the way for the construction of a monument in honour of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at the Supreme Court roundabout in Nairobi.

The proposal was initially tabled by Nairobi West MCA John Rex Omolleh, who had sought the establishment of the monument at Uhuru Park. However, in a memorandum submitted to the Clerk of the County Assembly, the legislator proposed an amendment to relocate the monument to the Supreme Court roundabout.

According to the motion, the monument is intended to recognise Mr Odinga's immense contribution to the development and growth of Kenya, citing his lifelong commitment to the advancement of good governance, expansion of democratic space, promotion of the rule of law, and support for infrastructure development.

The Assembly noted that the monument would serve as a lasting tribute to Mr Odinga's "selfless sacrifice in championing good governance, democratic space, the rule of law and development of infrastructure throughout his adult life."

Mr Odinga passed away on October 15, 2025, and was accorded a State funeral before being laid to rest on October 19, 2025, at his ancestral home in Bondo, Siaya County.
