Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has rebuked opposition
leaders who have been criticizing President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Harambee Annex,
Mwaura accused the opposition of portraying themselves as the only figures
capable of uniting the country.
He claimed many of these leaders - mostly former government
officials themselves - have gone to great lengths to position themselves as better suited to
lead the nation than President Ruto.
Mwaura further accused the leaders, including former
President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, among
others, of being nostalgic about their time in office.
“Let’s give President William Ruto time to deliver on the
promises he made to Kenyans. Within the three years he has been in power, he
has accomplished much compared to any other presidents we have had before,”
Mwaura said.
“I call upon former State officers to support the President,
just as they were supported during their time in government.”
The spokesperson dismissed opposition claims that the President has failed to keep his promises, insisting that Ruto remains
committed to delivering for Kenyans.
He highlighted ongoing development projects, including the
construction of the first-ever stadium in Wajir since independence, where this
year’s Madaraka Day celebrations will be held. He also cited new roads, a
terminal, and a runway aimed at opening up the region for business.
Mwaura further noted that the rollout of a new Information Management System for pensions, set to take effect on May 1, will benefit over 100,000 pensioners nationwide.
He said the system will eliminate paperwork,
reduce human interference, improve efficiency, and ensure timely payments.
“The new e-system will automate pension administration in
Kenya, marking a significant step in ongoing reforms. In addition, pensions
will now be tax-free, a move intended to encourage a stronger savings culture
among citizens,” Mwaura said.
Dr. Mwaura also urged Kenyans to invest in post-retirement
medical insurance schemes to guarantee access to quality healthcare after
retirement, noting that the initiative signals a major shift toward
digitization and improved service delivery in the country’s pension sector.
