Fortune Sacco striker Collins Mwangi is keeping his side’s promotion hopes alive as the National Super League (NSL) season heads into the home stretch.

Mwangi, who leads the scoring charts with 19 goals, was once again decisive last weekend, netting the winner in a 1-0 victory over Mwatate United to boost Fortune’s push for a top-tier place.

The forward says his focus remains team success over personal glory as the race for promotion tightens.

“My goal is to help the team earn promotion to the Kenyan Premier League. I feel proud to be the top scorer but the journey is still long, the title race is still tight, and for us every game is like a final. We just have to remain focused,” he said.

However, Mwangi will miss Wednesday’s clash against Soy United after picking up five yellow cards, a blow for Fortune Sacco given his importance in attack.

Even so, he remains confident his teammates can deliver in his absence as the promotion battle intensifies with just seven matches left.

“The team is in great form, my absence will not affect them in any way,” he noted.

Mwangi still leads the golden boot race with seven matches remaining, closely followed by Migori Youth’s Syphas Otieno, setting up a tense finish to the season.
