Mwanahalima's HB Køge into UWCL league phase

Mwanalima achieved the milestone on Wednesday night as her Danish club HB Køge Women eliminated Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven 2-1 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw in the return leg in Køge, Denmark.

HB Køge carried a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in the Netherlands and held their nerve at home to secure qualification. Now, Jereko, popularly known as Dogo has an opportunity to face some of the biggest clubs in European women’s football.

The 29-year-old’s rise on the European football stage highlights her growing influence in women’s football. After completing a permanent move from NWSL club Kansas City Current to HB Køge, following an initial loan spell, the Kenyan international has become an important part of Køge’s attacking line.

Jereko became the second Kenyan player to reach this stage of the competition after Marjolen Nekesa became the first Kenyan woman to play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage back in 2023 when she featured and scored for Czech Republic club Slavia Prague during their Champions League campaign.
