Operations at the newly expanded Mutuini Hospital are set to begin within the next few weeks following the delivery of critical medical equipment that will operationalise the facility's new 425-bed wing.

The expansion is expected to significantly improve access to specialised healthcare services for residents of Kawangware, Riruta, Dagoretti and the wider Kikuyu region, while easing pressure on major referral hospitals across Nairobi.

Among the equipment delivered to the facility are three fully equipped operating theatres, advanced laboratory machines, dialysis units and a CT scan machine, greatly enhancing the hospital's capacity to offer lifesaving and specialised medical services closer to the people.

The project is being implemented under a joint cooperation framework between the national government and the Nairobi County Government.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said installation of the equipment would commence immediately to pave the way for the hospital to become fully operational.

"This is what delivering on promises looks like. With three fully equipped theatres, a modern laboratory, dialysis services and a CT scan machine, we will be able to serve thousands of residents more effectively. The new block has a capacity of more than 425 beds and will be operational within the next few weeks," Sakaja said.

The Governor noted that the project was born out of a commitment made during a joint visit to the facility with President William Ruto, with both levels of government agreeing to work together to complete and equip the hospital.

"When we visited this facility with the President, we agreed that through a joint effort we could complete and equip this hospital. I want to thank him for the support that has enabled us to reach this milestone. In a few weeks, residents of this region will begin enjoying these services," he added.

Mutuini Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr. Martin Wafula confirmed that installation and auditing of the equipment had already begun to ensure proper deployment and accountability.

"I thank the Governor for fulfilling this promise. The equipment we have received will transform healthcare delivery in this facility and significantly improve services for the surrounding communities. We are currently undertaking installation and verification processes to ensure everything is ready for operationalization," Dr. Wafula said.

Once fully operational, the expanded hospital is expected to reduce patient congestion in existing public health facilities by bringing advanced and affordable healthcare services closer to Nairobi residents.

The project marks a significant milestone in the county government's efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand access to quality medical services across the capital.
