Murkomen orders probe into Standard Group Editor Alex Kiprotich's abduction

A day after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja ordered a thorough investigation into the abduction ofIPOA accuses police of frustrating investigations into Rex Masai's killingAlex Kiprotich, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has condemned the incident and directed security agencies to ensure those responsible face the full force of the law.

Despite the orders by the Inspector General and the Interior CS, police officers investigating the incident say they are waiting for Kiprotich to recover before recording his statement.

CS Murkomen described the abduction of the Standard Group Associate Editor as unlawful, barbaric and an embarrassment, insisting that media freedom must be upheld.

Murkomen also directed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to enhance security for journalists across the country, saying they must be protected as they carry out their duties.

“The IG must ensure the safety of journalists; they should be protected with enough security so they can perform their duties," he added.

The CS's remarks came as details emerged that the vehicle allegedly used by the abductors had its original number plate, KDC 125E, concealed.

The number plate is reportedly registered to the government but was not listed on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) portal.

According to Standard Group, the Associate Editor was found dumped near Masinga Dam nine hours after he was allegedly abducted along the Gilgil–Nakuru Road by armed men.
