Murkomen defends Samburu security operation, orders caution to prevent collateral damage

The CS was responding to calls for accountability following an operation that left several people injured and hundreds of livestock killed.

Murkomen says the government regrets the loss of livestock but will press ahead with efforts to rid Samburu and Isiolo of banditry and lawlessness.

“I see some people talking about other issues other than the lives of our police officers; we will continue with our operation to ensure that people who have illegal firearms, who have targeted our officers, targeted civilians, targeted our livestock will be dealt with, with finality,” he said.

He has also directed security agencies to exercise maximum caution during operations to minimise collateral damage.

“We are keeping quiet the way we are keeping quiet, but we know what to do. I know that in the course of the operation there were a few livestock that were killed and we are saying our officers must take the greatest precaution to ensure that there is no collateral damage in terms of civilians or their animals,” he added.

Murkomen spoke at Nandi Hills Stadium in Nandi County, where he presided over the Nandi East/Tinderet KNUT Branch empowerment ceremony.
