Murathe tells off Waiguru, alludes to ignorance of the law

Jubilee party vice chairman David Murathe has dismissed Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s call for the party elections amid hot debate on the State House succession politics.

Murathe who was replying to Waiguru’s tweet said the governor should acquaint herself with the party constitution on transition procedure.

“Please acquaint yourself with the party constitution. Article 33 (5) on the transition clause. Tuju retires in 2020, ” said Murathe.

Murathe, instead, advised Waiguru to consider amending the party constitution or consider joining the opposition.

“The operative word is “shall”. Unless you want to amend the party constitution. Mine,… You can have on a silver platter even tomorrow. Join the rabid attack dogs.”

In a statement to newsrooms on Saturday, Waiguru urged the Jubilee Party to hold elections “soonest possible” to reorganise the party and stem the growing divisions.

The statement comes barely a week after Murathe stated at a public function in Vihiga County that Deputy President William Ruto should exit the political stage with President Kenyatta in 2022.

His sentiments have since triggered mixed reactions from politicians allied to the DP.

A section of Jubilee Party leaders among them National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and his Senate counterpart Kipchumba Murkumen dismissed Murathe’s sentiments as a personal opinion.
