A 24-year-old mother accused of drowning her two children in River Mathioya, Murang’a County has been remanded for 21 days to allow police to complete investigations.

Lillian Wacera Maina is alleged to have thrown her daughters, Precious Wanjiku, aged seven, and Primrose Ngariuri, aged one year and eight months, into the river, just three days after leaving her home in Maralal, Samburu County.

According to family members, Wacera had reportedly lied to her husband that she was travelling to her rural home in Gatitu to visit her ailing father.

The court directed that the case be mentioned on November 17, 2025.

The incident adds to a growing number of tragic child murder cases reported in Murang’a County. In a separate case two months ago, a woman in Kanorero village, Kangema, allegedly stabbed her two children to death following a domestic dispute.

A third child, aged four, narrowly survived the attack and sustained stab wounds to the chest. Police have since arrested both suspects as investigations continue.
