Zetech Sparks head coach Job Munene has urged his side to show greater resilience after a mixed start to their National Women’s Basketball Premier League campaign over the weekend.

The students began brightly with a 71–63 win over Lady Titans, but their momentum was halted on Sunday after a 72–64 defeat to UON Dynamites in a tight varsity showdown.

Munene pointed to defensive lapses and squad disruptions as key factors behind the inconsistency, revealing he had to rely on Division One players due to the absence of several key squad members.

“We were giving away very easy baskets,” he said.

“Some of us were confident that we were going to win because the team we were playing has never beaten us. Nevertheless, we had control of our defense and our offense at the end.”

The tactician said he was forced to rotate his squad heavily, handing opportunities to players from the club’s Division One side.

“I did play more players from Division One because we’ve lost five (key players), and we still have to keep on pushing, keep on fighting,” he added.

Munene also described the league as highly competitive, stressing the need for a stronger mentality.

“I’ve told them the league is like a dogfight, whoever wants it more wins.”

Despite the mixed results, Munene remains confident his side can bounce back by tightening their defense and improving consistency across all quarters.
