Kenya Premier
League relegation-threatened Kariobangi Sharks coach William Muluya has urged
his players to start scoring goals if they are to stay up.
His comments
come after they were held to a goalless draw by Bidco United at Wanguru
Stadium, Kirinyaga, over the weekend, leaving them 16th on the log with 30
points.
Muluya called
for a sharper forward line in the remaining four matches.
"We are
not scoring goals, but it is also good for us not to concede. However, that does
not mean that we should be satisfied with not conceding while not scoring.
“It is very
important that we score at least six goals in the remaining four matches,
because it might help us stay in the league.
“If it
doesn’t work out, then we should score one goal in each match without conceding
as long as we get three points in every game." said coach William Muluya.
Muluya also
heaped praise on his goalkeeper Collins Obwalo, who earned his premier league
debut in startling fashion by saving a 63rd-minute penalty awarded to Bidco.
Clinton Asiago missed the 63rd-minute penalty.
"The game
wasn’t easy; we are happy with the point, and I must congratulate the goalkeeper
who saved the penalty. We have twelve points to fight for.
“Collins is a
goalkeeper who hadn’t tested Premier League action and truly stepped up, which
is motivating and encouraging for me to see. I will continue giving him playing
time.
“Our
first-choice goalkeeper had no injury, and we had a reason why we decided to
bench him," added Muluya.
Kariobangi
Sharks will play Nairobi United, Kenya Police, Kakamega Homeboyz, and the already-relegated Sofapaka in their remaining fixtures.
