Doctors at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret have commenced industrial action after failure by the management to address their grievances that were not implemented in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Addressing the press on Wednesday, Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) branch secretary general Kamozi Mulei said it has taken the management too long to address issues such as contractual terms for doctors which they say are demeaning, unconstitutional and discriminatory.

Mulei noted that the doctors on contract basis do not enjoy the same benefits enjoyed by doctors on Permanent and Pensionable terms.

The doctors say they do not have medical cover even to enjoy services offered by MTRH.

They also raised concerns on third party deductions, saying MTRH management has not remitted statutory deductions for 4 months now leading to doctors being placed on CRB.

The medics also accused the management of failing to promote doctors. The strike begins after the lapse of a 14-day notice.
