Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has formally declared interest in running for the Nairobi governorship in the 2027 General Election, branding himself “Mr Fix-it” and pledging to transform the capital if elected.

Speaking on Sunday during a visit by Jubilee leaders to Bishop Margaret Wanjiru's Jesus Is Alive Ministries Church in Nairobi, Mosiria appeared to suggest a possible political partnership with Wanjiru, proposing that she serve as his deputy.

“If you want change in Nairobi, Mosiria is the change. Mosiria will fix Nairobi. Sasa nataka nikuwe gavana, mama akiwa deputy wangu. Twende mbele, mama!” Mosiria said.

Mosiria, who was flagged by Jubilee Party Leader Fred Matiang'i, promised to build on the development plans of former governors Evans Kidero and Mike Sonko and complete the work begun by his boss, Governor Johnson Sakaja, arguing that their manifestos had not been fully implemented.

“So mbele yenu ni Mr Fix-it. Kama vile Matiang’i alifix education na Interior, nitafix Nairobi, na mama akiwa nyuma yangu, tutatembea pamoja naye mimi kama gavana wa Nairobi,” he said.

“I’m coming to implement the three manifestos. Mimi sitakuja na manifesto, Kidero alikuja na manifesto mzuri, lakini hakupata nafasi ya kuitekeleza kikamilifu...Sonko alikuja na manifesto mzuri, lakini hakumaliza kuimplement. Nitamaliza kuimplement hizo manifesto,” he added.

He added, "Mdosi wangu sasa hapo ofisini. Si mnaona mimi ndiye nafanya kazi Nairobi? Sasa nikiingia, nimsaidie kuimplement hiyo manifesto si Nairobi itasonga mbele?"

Mosiria defended his record in Nairobi County, citing his experience in the health, environment and customer service dockets as evidence of his readiness to lead the city.

He said he had helped improve health services before moving to the environment docket, where he focused on garbage collection, and later to customer service, where he said he intervened in cases involving women and children.

Mosiria argued that his experience in the county government had prepared him for the governor's office, saying Nairobi needed leadership capable of addressing the influence of criminal gangs and cartels.

“Nairobi is too serious to be left to the goons. Nairobi is too serious to be left in the hands of cartels,” he said.

Mosiria's declaration comes after intensified speculation about his political ambitions, where on Saturday he shared a photograph with Jubilee presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i.

In the post, he captioned the photograph, “Kila mtu ako na babake na kabla uanze safari lazima uanze kwa kuomba babako nafasi,” fuelling speculation that he could be seeking Matiang’i's backing in his bid to succeed Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Mosiria first gained experience in Nairobi's public health sector before serving as Chief Officer for Health Facilities. He was transferred to the Environment docket in August 2024 and reassigned to Citizen Engagement and Customer Service in November 2025.

He announced earlier in October that he intended to contest the governorship and face Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, saying the decision followed consultations with former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

Mosiria now joins his boss Sakaja, Owino, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, businesswoman Agnes Kagure and other aspirants seeking to lead Nairobi County.
