Milimani Magistrate’s Court has cleared Mumias East MP Peter Salasya of a hate speech case after he complied with court directives.

Magistrate Paul Mutai ruled that Salasya had actively engaged in peace campaigns reaching over 1,000 people, including ongoing initiatives on social media.

The court noted that the MP had committed to sustaining these efforts, leading to the withdrawal of the charges.

Earlier, the case could not be dismissed until Salasya issued a public apology and participated in a social media peace campaign.

The DPP, through prosecutor Nora Achieng, confirmed that the withdrawal follows an out of court agreement between Salasya and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

MP Salasya was charged in May 19 ,2025 with hate speech, accused of making inflammatory social media remarks targeting members of a specific community.
