The business, branded Skinly, is based at Covo Square along Gitanga Road and offers skincare products, facial analysis, beauty therapy, manicures, pedicures, spa services and fashion items, including shoes, dresses, hats and fascinators.
Maina said the venture was driven by her interest in skincare and fashion, which she wanted to combine in one business.
“I love skincare, and I love fashion. I wanted to bring these interests together under one brand—something that speaks to women and meets their lifestyle needs,” she said.
She disclosed that the business had employed six people aged below 25, with further recruitment dependent on its growth.
Maina said she decided to launch the venture despite economic uncertainty, arguing that entrepreneurs should not indefinitely postpone investment while waiting for ideal conditions.
“I believe in Kenya, and I believe in our institutions. I want this launch to demonstrate that we can continue investing, building businesses and creating opportunities even during uncertain times,” she said.
She added that she hoped her move into business would encourage young people to pursue entrepreneurship and create employment opportunities.
The launch, held at Bonsai Villa in Gigiri, Nairobi, attracted political, legal, media and civic figures, including Kirinyaga Senator James Kamau Murango, political communications strategist Pauline Njoroge and former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Mony Odhiambo.
Maina is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and runs Njeri Maina Law Advocates alongside her role as Kirinyaga Woman Representative in the National Assembly.
She has also recently returned to music with the release of her reggae single, Hit and Run.
