Maina said residents should arrest and hand over to police anyone found distributing items while claiming to represent her office or that of Murango.
Speaking at ACK Church Kutus in Kirinyaga County, Maina said residents should first establish whether individuals distributing such items had been authorized by either of the two leaders.
“If someone distributes items that are embarrassing and you are not aware of his identity or whether he comes from my office, or that of Senator Kamau Murango, please take action against them by arresting that person and presenting him at the nearby police station and alert me so that we can take legal action,” Maina said.
She said the individuals behind the activities were imposters seeking to damage the reputations of the two leaders and create divisions between them and residents.
“Those who were behind the incident are not us. They are malicious people capable of distributing poison just to soil my name and that of Senator Murango so that they can create hatred between us and the people,” she said.
Maina's remarks came amid a viral video showing women's underwear bearing National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) branding, which has been linked to the two leaders.
She denied any involvement in the distribution of the items, saying she would not distribute personal clothing such as underwear bearing her name.
“I am urging the residents of Kirinyaga to take note that there is no day that I will distribute food or underwears written on my name,” she said.
Maina also condemned the distribution of private clothing items in the name of political leaders, saying the incident was embarrassing to Kirinyaga County.
“It is wrong for someone to embarrass Kirinyaga County by demonstrating that the people of Kirinyaga are that backward to distribute clothing items that are private,” she said.
The legislator vowed to pursue those responsible for allegedly using her name and that of Murango without authorization.
“I will take on head-on those behind such embarrassing character because I fear no one,” Maina said.
Murango has also denied involvement in the production or distribution of the underwear shown in the viral video.
Through his lawyers, Sakimpa & Partners Advocates, the senator said he neither printed, procured, bought, supplied nor distributed the items.
“Our client did not print, procure, buy, supply or distribute the underwear shown in the video,” the lawyers said in correspondence dated September 24, 2026.
The lawyers further said Murango had not authorized the use of his name or NGAAF branding on the items, arguing that the appearance of his name and the branding did not, by itself, establish his involvement.
