Speaking at Karuri Grounds in Manyatta Constituency during the distribution of bursary cheques to students, Mukunji expressed confidence that he would unseat Governor Mbarire.
The legislator said Embu County had lagged behind in development since the introduction of devolution, adding that he was best placed to address what he termed as years of underdevelopment.
“For the record, so that they know, I will be vying for the Embu gubernatorial seat in 2027. We must change Embu,” Mukunji declared.
As he intensifies his political preparations ahead of the elections, Mukunji said his immediate focus would be uniting leaders from Manyatta Constituency in a bid to solidify his political backyard.
The MP is banking on the large voting bloc in Manyatta Constituency, which has more than 100,000 registered voters, to strengthen his bid.
Others eyeing the Embu governor’s seat include former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, who is expected to make his third attempt at the county’s top seat.
Governor Mbarire hails from Runyenjes Constituency, the second-largest constituency in Embu County in terms of voter numbers.
Kivuti, on the other hand, comes from Mbeere North and is expected to rely heavily on support from both Mbeere North and Mbeere South constituencies, where he enjoys significant political backing.
