Mwala Member of Parliament and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Organising Secretary Vincent Musyoka Kawaya has questioned what he termed the contradiction in former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to resign as Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Chairperson while simultaneously pledging continued support for the outfit.

Uhuru on Wednesday announced that he had stepped down from the coalition’s leadership but would remain a committed member of the Azimio family and continue supporting it from the ranks.

Speaking during a women’s economic empowerment event in Kinyui, Matungulu Constituency, Kawaya questioned what had actually changed.

“If you have resigned from the leadership of the coalition but remain committed to supporting it from the ranks, what exactly has changed?” Kawaya posed.

He further questioned Uhuru’s continued influence in opposition politics, saying: “If Uhuru could not deliver the presidency to Raila Odinga when he was in power in 2022, how does he hope to help the opposition in 2027?”

The MP also questioned Uhuru’s ability to unite the wider opposition, pointing to divisions within Jubilee, the party the former President led until recently when relinquished his position to ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i.

“The same party Uhuru Kenyatta led until recently…if he could not bring Jubilee together, how can he now be expected to unite the wider Azimio/Ukombozi coalition?” he posed.

Kawaya, a key ally of President William Ruto in Ukambani, reaffirmed his support for the Head of State and said he would secure re-election in 2027.
