East lawmaker Babu Owino has been named
the best performing Member of Parliament in Kenya for the second year in a row.
The MP
was on Thursday evening feted at the Politrack Africa Starleaders Awards,
which assess leaders based on performance and public impact.
The
recognition comes after a similar one by the same entity in April last year, reinforcing
his continued visibility in national leadership rankings and performance-based
assessments.
On February 12, 2025, Owino was also ranked
the top-performing MP in a survey conducted by Infotrak Research, which measured
public approval across the country, with an overall performance score of 72%.
Owino,
speaking on Friday after the latest award, his third of the same category by
two different entities in just two years, said the recognition reflects the
support of his constituents and reaffirmed his commitment to service.
“Last night at Serena Hotel, I was deeply
honored to be recognized as the Best Member of Parliament in Kenya. This
achievement is not mine alone, it belongs to the people I serve, whose trust
and support continue to inspire my work every day,” he said.
“My performance track record reflects a
shared commitment to progress, accountability, and meaningful service. I remain
dedicated to advancing the needs of our communities and delivering results that
improve lives.”
He
added: “Leadership is not about titles, power, or positions, it is about
service. And I will continue to serve with integrity, humility, and unwavering
focus on the people.”
The MP
emerged top in the Politrack Africa Star Leaders Awards with a 68.4% rating,
followed closely by his Lugari counterpart Nabii Nabwera and Mavoko legislator
Patrick Makau who both received a 67.7% approval.
Kiharu
MP Ndindi Nyoro, who was ranked second best performing legislator by Infotrak
last year, jumped to third place and tied with his Molo counterpart Kuria
Kimani as well as Kabete’s Githua Wamacukuru at 65.2%.
