A 21-year-old man from Mbande village in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, has been admitted to Webuye General Hospital after being shot by police during a violent confrontation between officers and mourners.

The mourners were reportedly transporting the body of their relative to the home of a village resident suspected of involvement in the murder of 23-year-old Douglas Lutta, who was brutally killed two weeks ago.

According to Malava OCPD Suleiman Majondo, police received information that the mourners planned to storm the suspect’s compound.

When officers attempted to stop them, the group allegedly began pelting the police with stones, prompting the officers to open fire.

One mourner was shot and taken to hospital.

Police are investigating the matter.
