Mother of children who ate chameleons gets help

Joyce Chemng'etich, a mother of 9 from Kuresoi North, Nakuru County has gotten help from Kenyans of goodwill after her plight was highlighted.

Chemng'etich came to the limelight last week after her two children were admitted to Molo Sub-county Hospital after consuming chameleons.

On Monday, Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika settled the hospital bill of the children after their discharge.

The governor also directed that Chemng'etich, who had no stable job is employed as an environment officer in Sirikwa ward Kuresoi North.

She directed county officials to ensure her children get back to school and those above 18 years be enrolled in tertiary institutions.

The Family also received donations that included house items, bedding, and food to sustain them before Chemng'etich gets stable in her new job.

"The governor has directed the woman to be employed in the environment department where she will work within her environs that is Sirikwa town so as she can manage to take care of her family. Also, the governor will pay her 3 months’ rent before her monthly rent starts to flow well," Kuresoi North Sub-county Administrator Nicholas Kiplagat said.

 A Chief Inspector of Police from Nairobi was also touched by the story and offered the family financial Support of Ksh.50,000.

Nyakinyua residents escorted Chemng'etich to her new house on Monday, thanking Kenyans of goodwill who came to her rescue.
