More than 57 illegal betting machines destroyed in Embu

More than 57 illegal betting machines confiscated from different parts of Embu East Sub-County have been destroyed at the Runyenjes Deputy County Commissioner’s grounds following an operation by the Embu East Security Committee.
Speaking before the machines were destroyed, Embu County Commissioner Maurice Wanyonyi said the exercise was aimed at enforcing betting regulations, curbing petty crime and addressing the growing involvement of underage children in gambling.
Wanyonyi said the machine operators did not have licences from the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB), adding that premises hosting the machines had become havens for criminal activity.
Embu East Deputy County Commissioner Jane Waruinge, who chairs the area’s security committee, thanked security officers, administrators and residents for their cooperation during the operation.
