Motorists will pay more for fuel from Thursday, October 15, after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) increased the prices of Super Petrol by Ksh.12.93 per litre and diesel by Ksh.9.90, while kerosene recorded a steeper rise of Ksh.28.49.

In Nairobi, Super Petrol will retail at Ksh.226.96 per litre, diesel at Ksh.227.76 and kerosene at Ksh.219.87 for the period running until November 14, 2026.

In Mombasa, Super Petrol will retail at Ksh.223.81 per litre, diesel at Ksh.224.61 and kerosene at Ksh.216.71.

EPRA said the new prices were calculated based on the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products during the review period. The prices include Value Added Tax (VAT) at 8 per cent.

The regulator attributed the increases to higher international costs, with the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol rising by 11.81 per cent from 874.26 US dollars per cubic metre in August to 977.55 US dollars in September.

"Diesel recorded an 11.32 per cent increase, from 957.05 US dollars to 1,065.38 US dollars per cubic metre, while kerosene rose by 9.41 per cent from 1,003.87 US dollars to 1,098.31 US dollars over the same period," EPRA stated.

The latest review reverses the previous month's decision to retain pump prices, when Super Petrol in Nairobi was selling at Ksh.214.03 per litre, diesel at Ksh.217.86 and kerosene at Ksh.191.38.

Kenya imports all its petroleum requirements in refined form, with domestic pump prices influenced by international market benchmarks and the prevailing exchange rate.

The dollar traded at an average of Ksh.129.91 in September, compared with Ksh.129.72 in August, according to EPRA's data.

The regulator said its pricing framework is intended to ensure importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered while keeping prices reasonable for consumers.

The new prices take effect at midnight on October 15 and will remain in force until November 14, 2026.
