Moim praised her teammates’ resilience after a demanding campaign that ended in a 3-1 loss to Egypt’s Al Ahly in the final, insisting the experience would fuel the team’s next push for continental glory.
“First of all, my appreciation goes to everyone on the team for not giving up, even when things got tough,” Moim said. “We fought to the end and gave our best. While we did not get the result we wanted, we are proud of how far we have come and how we represented Kenya. This experience will only make us stronger.”
Patron Judith Sidi Odhiambo echoed the captain’s sentiments, framing the silver medal as a major step forward for the club.
“I am very proud of the team. They have shown great determination throughout the tournament,” she said. “Finishing second in Africa is no small feat. We will carry this momentum into our local competitions, keep our heads high and win all that is there.”
KCB’s campaign in Cairo marked a clear improvement from last year’s fifth-place finish in Nigeria, underlining the team’s steady rise on the continental stage. The Lionesses reached the final unbeaten, only to be stopped by a resurgent Al Ahly side that recovered after dropping the opening set to win 22-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16.
Despite the defeat, KCB dominated much of the tournament, sweeping through the group stages with straight-sets victories over Vipers and Partners (Nigeria), ARSU Ladies (Seychelles), and Litto Team Volleyball (Cameroon).
Their momentum continued in the knockouts, where they dispatched GLC (Burundi) and Mayo Kani Evolution (Cameroon) in convincing fashion.
A statement semi-final win over Kenya Pipeline—where KCB rallied from a set down to win 3-1—highlighted their grit and set up a familiar showdown with Al Ahly.
Individually, the team also left its mark. Merlyn Terry Tata was named Best Opposite Attacker, Juliana Namutira earned Best Outside Hitter honours, and Sharon Cherono was recognised as Best Middle Blocker.
The final added another chapter to the long-running rivalry between KCB and Al Ahly, with the Egyptians now extending their dominance as 11-time champions. Still, for KCB, the bigger picture is one of progress.
