Mombasa United leaders have expressed strong confidence that the team will maintain its impressive unbeaten home record in the current National Super League (NSL) season when they face Soy United this Sunday at Mombasa Sports Club.

According to team manager Gilbert Wesonga, despite recent changes made earlier this week, the squad is well prepared to secure victory in what will be their 15th home match of the season.

So far, Mombasa United have won all their home fixtures.

“Only reserve goalkeeper and striker Atta are the only injured players, so we have a full house to battle it out against Soy United — another tough home match,” Wesonga said.

“I am confident that we will protect our 100% home record against Soy, and I believe we will secure a win with plenty of goals,” he added.

Wesonga also called on fans to continue supporting the team, noting that they are in a strong position to earn promotion to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) next season. The club currently sits second on the table with 58 points, level with league leaders Migori Youth.

“Despite the technical bench shake-up we had this week, the team is up to the task. The remaining coaches will guide the squad against Soy. We aim to win the National Super League this season and secure promotion to the Kenya Premier League,” he stated.

Earlier this week, the club parted ways with head coach Gilbert Selebwa following what was described as a string of unsatisfactory results.

Under Selebwa, Mombasa United recorded five home wins, five away wins, and two away losses in their last 12 matches.

Striker Fidel Madiela has been instrumental to the team’s strong performances this season and emphasised the importance of finishing the campaign strongly.

“We have worked hard to put ourselves in this position, but the job is not done. We have to stay focused and finish strong,” he said.

Madiela also spoke openly about his ambitions beyond the current season:

“Every player wants to play at the highest level. For me, I want to help this team achieve something special and push towards competitions like the CAF Champions League,” he added.
