Speaking ahead of the club's final National Super League (NSL) fixture, General Manager Gilbert Wesonga revealed that preparations for the top-flight campaign are already underway and that the team has no intention of slowing down after the season ends.
"We have already started planning for KPL. After our final match, we will not rest for long. We will only have a small break of one or two weeks before getting back to shape up even more for KPL," said Wesonga.
The coastal side has enjoyed an impressive NSL campaign, remaining unbeaten at home throughout the season and positioning themselves among the league's top performers.
Wesonga also dismissed concerns over the club's financial capacity, crediting the unwavering support of Patron Suleiman Shahbal, Club President Abdulrahman Hussein, and other football stakeholders from the Coast region.
"In terms of finance, I can comfortably say we are okay under our main sponsor and Patron Suleiman Shahbal and President Abdulrahman Hussein. I know the community will also support us, alongside other football stakeholders we have in the Coast region. We hope they will come on board. We are set and ready for KPL," he added.
Attention has now shifted to Mombasa United's crucial final league match against Naivas FC at Dandora Stadium in Nairobi, a fixture Wesonga described as a must-win encounter.
"We have played several matches before at Dandora Stadium and the results were not on our side. That's why we sent our players there from Tuesday this week to familiarise themselves with the artificial playing surface before the big match," he explained.
Despite a few injury concerns, the club remains optimistic heading into the clash.
"Led by our coach Okidi, our camp is highly motivated. We only have two injured players, meaning we have almost a full squad available, and I am sure we will get a win and end our season well," Wesonga said.
Mombasa United currently sit third in the National Super League standings with 75 points, behind league leaders Migori Youth and 3K FC, both of whom have already been confirmed by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) as participants in next season's Kenyan Premier League.
FKF Mombasa County Chairman Alamin Ahmed Abdalla congratulated Mombasa United for securing promotion, describing the achievement as a significant boost for football in the region.
"I am very happy for the entire Mombasa United team for that achievement. It is a milestone for the growth of football here in Mombasa and across the Coast region. I wish them all the best in their final NSL encounter against Naivas," said Abdalla.
