Mombasa United extended their impressive run in the National Super League with a comfortable 3–1 victory over Vihiga United at Mombasa Sports Club on Friday afternoon.

The hosts secured all three points thanks to goals from Jack Watee, Dennis Toeri, and Lemmy Menza, while Patrick Ong’aya scored a consolation for Vihiga United.

Mombasa United made a bright start, creating early chances inside the opening ten minutes, but Kevin Okoth and David Mayson were both narrowly off target.

Their early pressure paid off in the 19th minute when Jack Watee capitalised on a loose ball inside the six-yard box, firing a low shot past goalkeeper Hillary Imbahale to give the home side the lead.

Ten minutes later, Mombasa United doubled their advantage from the penalty spot, with Dennis Toeri calmly sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Vihiga United responded quickly, pulling one back just three minutes later through Patrick Ong’aya, who also converted from the spot after beating Kevin Tila.

The second half saw Mombasa United continue to dominate, though James Onyango and Myson David failed to convert their chances. Vihiga United threatened a comeback late on, with Richard Obonyo coming close, his glancing header missing the target by inches.

However, Lemmy Menza sealed the win in the dying moments of the match, heading home from a David Wanyama corner to secure maximum points and maintain Mombasa United’s position at the top of the table.

Speaking after the final whistle, Vihiga United head coach Victor Omido expressed his frustration with the result:

"We are not pleased with the results. We have come a long way and we anticipated at least a point to help save our season, but it was not our day. We will live to fight another day."

On the other hand, Mombasa United coach Gilbert Selebwa praised his team’s resilience and composure:

"It was a hard match. We played against a team that is fighting to avoid relegation and they are always dangerous. Every team wants to be the first to beat us here at home, but we managed to stay calm and get the result."

The victory also saw Mombasa United maintain their perfect home record, registering their 15th consecutive win on home soil.
