Police in Mombasa County say they have
arrested two men believed to be behind a spate of violent robberies in the coast
region.
Mohammed Ibrahim Shaban, 22, and 19-year-old
Abdulaziz Ali Ogutu were flushed from their hideout in Utange village, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said on Tuesday.
“The duo is believed to be behind a series
of panga attacks including a violent robbery resulting in a fatal incident on
July 18, 2024. They are also linked to three separate robberies on September
14, 2024, in Majengo, Makupa and Tononoka,” DCI said.
Police added that the two “were planning
their next attack” and that a machete, three knives, two assorted mobile
phones, two backpacks, and an ID card belonging to one Yusuf Amani Yusuf were among
the items found in the men's residence.
