Mombasa: Two Kenya Power police officers arrested over alleged Ksh.100K bribe demand

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two police officers attached to Kenya Power’s Coast Regional Office over allegations of demanding a Ksh.100,000 bribe from a complainant in Mombasa.

The suspects have been identified as Inspector Benjamin Ochieng and Corporal Said Bakari.

According to the EACC, the two officers allegedly demanded the bribe from a complainant after accusing him of illegally connecting electricity to his residence in Bombolulu, Mombasa.

The officers are alleged to have offered to refrain from investigating the complainant and taking legal action against him in exchange for the payment.

The alleged bribery demand was reported to the anti-graft agency, prompting EACC investigators to commence inquiries to verify the allegations.

On Monday, August 24, 2026, the commission mounted an operation targeting the two officers.

During the operation, the officers allegedly escorted the complainant to a bank along Moi Avenue to collect the money.

The EACC said its officers subsequently arrested the two suspects opposite DTB Bank after they allegedly received Ksh.50,000 from the complainant as part of the demanded bribe.

The officers were booked at Central Police Station for processing before being released on Ksh.30,000 cash bail pending further investigations. The commission said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
