Mombasa: Man surrenders to police after fatally stabbing wife, child

According to a police report from Kongowea Police Station, the suspect, identified as Richard Matiko, is alleged to have attacked another child during the incident, leaving the 14-year-old with serious stab wounds.

The teenager managed to escape from the house despite sustaining injuries and was later assisted by a good Samaritan who took the child to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Police said the suspect allegedly placed the body of the child in a pit latrine after the attack.

He also allegedly attempted to dispose of his wife's body in the same manner but was unable to do so because of its weight. He instead reportedly wrapped her body in a mattress and left it inside the house.

The suspect later went to Nyali Police Station and reported the incident, leading officers to the house where the two bodies were found.

 Coast Regional Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Boss Ben Kasyoki confirmed that police officers had launched investigations into the double homicide.

"This is a deeply disturbing case of extreme domestic violence. Our homicide teams are already processing the scene, and we have the suspect in custody after he surrendered himself to our officers,"  he stated. 

"We are working to establish the exact motive behind this tragedy, and the suspect will face the full force of the law once investigations are complete."

The bodies were moved to the Coast General Mortuary pending postmortem examinations and further investigations.

The suspect remains in police custody as detectives continue with investigations into the deaths.
