The Mombasa County Government has unveiled plans to invest an estimated Ksh.70 million in the redevelopment of Uhuru Gardens as part of efforts to create a modern public recreation and tourism hub in the heart of the city.

The project, dubbed "Uhuru Gardens 2.0," is designed to transform the popular public space into a vibrant destination for families, fitness enthusiasts, tourists, and community groups.

According to the county government, the revamped park will feature family picnic areas, expansive green spaces, a modern children's play area, outdoor fitness facilities, and dedicated walking and running tracks to promote healthy lifestyles among residents.

The redevelopment will also include modern washrooms and nappy-changing rooms to improve convenience for families and other park users.

To boost cultural and social activities, the new-look park will incorporate an amphitheatre that will host cultural performances, entertainment events, and community gatherings.

In addition, the county plans to establish a Tourist Information Centre within the facility to provide visitors with information about Mombasa's attractions and tourism offerings.

Other improvements will include extensive landscaping and beautification works, as well as the construction of a secure perimeter wall to enhance safety and protect the public facility.

County officials said the project is intended to create a greener, more inclusive, and more vibrant public space that can accommodate a wide range of activities, including family outings, birthday celebrations, youth events, fitness sessions, and cultural functions.

The Ksh.70 million investment is part of the county government's wider strategy to improve public amenities, promote tourism, and enhance the quality of life for residents.

Once completed, Uhuru Gardens 2.0 is expected to become one of Mombasa's flagship recreational parks and a key attraction for both residents and visitors.
