New Nzoia Sugar chairman Yaptes Mokua has challenged leaders from Western Kenya region to rally behind the team.

Mokua says this will motivate the players to put in even more effort and bring glory to the region.

His call comes after only six players reported back to the camp for training ahead of new season, with a number of the key players who propelled the team to a fourth place finish last season already gone to rival teams.

Such are Joseph Mwangi and James Kibande who last week were unveiled at Tusker FC.

Mokua admits the pressing issue of financial instability at the club is the only reason they are worried about chances of keeping last campaign's mojo.

“We really need support from our leaders, if they support this team well then we can achieve big things here, we always struggle almost every season because we keep loosing players to our opponents due financial woes we go through,” Mokua told Citizen Digital.

The soft spoken administrator says he is hopeful the new tactician Godfrey Oduor will help recruit quality players that will fill the gaps left by departed players and stabilize the team ahead of the fourth coming 2023/24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League campaign.

“We now have a new coach and we are hoping that he will lead the recruitment process to fill the gaps left by departed players as we prepare for the coming campaign.”

Mokua who was elected unopposed two weeks ago during the election of a fresh management committee held at the company office in Bungoma is tasked with leading the club into a new era; after the exit of long serving chairman Evans Kadenge who retired.

His priority alongside newly-constituted executive committee, is to address the pressing issue of financial instability at the club.
