Embu town business community is a disturbed lot after the frequent electricity disruption caused by what they say are rogue miraa transport drivers.

The newly introduced canters that transport miraa are overloaded and this means they break Kenya Power electrical lines causing power blackout within Embu town.

One petrol station manager explains: "We are devastated by the frequent electricity interruption in CBD. We've visited Kenya Power office for assistance and indeed, they worked on this section but the more they raise up the conductors, the more they (miraa transporters) add the load and as a result, they break the conductors resulting into blackout.”

Another businessman who runs an hotel and and a Guest House within Embu town noted that the situation hasn't been good to their business.

"You can imagine late in the evening with guests around then power goes off. They can't have their warm shower, they can't have meals in a well lit area, some of the orders can't be executed, and again it also affects some of food stuffs under refrigeration. We are humbly appealing to the authorities to come up with a permanent solution to this."
