Former Safaricom boss Michael Joseph has been nominated to join the board of Kenya Airways.

This is part of a major shakeup that is expected to inject fresh ideas into the airline’s board as it faces its toughest time yet.

Speaking during the airline annual general meeting, KQ Board Chairman Denis Awori said the new directors will be expected steer the airline into full recovery while bringing years of expertise to restructure the airline.

Michael Joseph is credited with growing Safaricom into the region’s most profitable company.

Kenya Airways announced a record loss of Sh26.2 billion with both board and management changes expected.

Mr Awori said results from the board elections will be announced on October 5.

Kenya Airways’ board is made up of 12 members with the government keen to get more seats on the board.

The government is the major shareholder in KQ with a 30 percent stake.
