Metto, Wambui take top honours as NCBA Golf Series lands in Ruiru

Kelvin Metto and Catherine Wambui emerged the leading performers as the NCBA Golf Series made its latest stop at the par-70 Ruiru Sports Club, with 277 golfers turning out for the weekend tournament.

Metto carded 69 gross, playing off a handicap of two to win the Overall Men’s Gross title, edging Benard Omondi on countback after Omondi also returned 69 gross off a handicap of zero. John Timbe finished third on 72 gross, playing off handicap one.

“It feels great to come out on top today, especially in a field of this size. I had a good round and managed to stay focused throughout the game. The Grand Finale is also something I am looking forward to, and I will now work on maintaining this form,” said Metto.

In the ladies’ category, Wambui claimed the Overall Lady Gross title after posting 80 gross off a handicap of six.

Wambui was equally pleased with her performance, saying: “I am very happy with the win. It was a good day on the course and I am pleased with how I played. The opportunity to qualify for the Grand Finale makes the win even more special, and I am looking forward to competing at Karen.”

In other categories, Erastus Ouko won Division Two Men’s title after scoring 41 Stableford points off a handicap of 21, while Lucy Mwangi took the Division Two Ladies title with 40 points off a handicap of 24.

Mwangi Macharia won Division Three with 40 points off a handicap of 30.

Shawn Mwita emerged the leading junior after scoring 39 Stableford points off a handicap of 31.

The leading performers earned qualification to the NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale, scheduled for November at Karen Country Club, where qualifiers from the various legs of the series will compete for the season’s honours.

Speaking at the conclusion of the tournament, Francis Wangui, NCBA Nord Branch Manager said the turnout at Ruiru reflected the growing appeal of the NCBA Golf Series and its focus on providing golfers with opportunities to compete and progress through the season.

 

“With 277 golfers on the course, the Ruiru leg has once again demonstrated the strong interest in the NCBA Golf Series. We are particularly pleased to see golfers across the different categories earn their places in the Grand Finale, and we look forward to welcoming them to Karen in November,” he said.

 

The Ruiru leg is part of the 2026 NCBA Golf Series, which continues to provide golfers across different handicap categories with opportunities to compete at club level while earning qualification to the season-ending grand finale.
