Appointed on February 20, 2026, to replace Charles Okere, the French tactician has overseen eight Kenyan Premier League matches—winning four, losing three, and drawing one—while also guiding Tusker to the FKF Cup quarterfinals.
Mette, a UEFA Pro Licence holder with coaching experience in Congo-Brazzaville, Djibouti, and Rwanda, has lifted Tusker from 10th to 7th on the table with 41 points. He believes the team can maintain momentum in both the league and cup as they build toward next season.
“We are targeting a top-five finish. That would be a strong improvement from where we are,” said Mette. “Our league form has boosted our confidence heading into the cup, and this competition gives us a chance to salvage the season.”
The coach credits the team’s progress to a tactical shift from a predictable 4-2-3-1 system to a more compact 4-4-2 formation.
“When I arrived, the team was using a 4-2-3-1, which was very predictable. I switched to a 4-4-2, and it’s starting to pay off,” he explained. “We used it against Kariobangi Sharks in the cup and Gor Mahia in the league, and we won both matches. The players are beginning to understand it—they can score early and remain solid defensively because the system keeps them close together.”
Despite the progress, Mette expressed concern over the performance of his fringe players after a goalless draw against Sofapaka at Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County, where he rested most of his regular starters.
“The disappointment was that the players who came in could not win that match,” he said. “But it helped me identify who I want to work with next season. Those who don’t fit into my system will have to move on.”
