A 45-year-old trader was on Saturday afternoon found dead, his body mutilated and stashed in a sack at his rental house in Gitimbine area, Meru County.

Area residents who spoke to Citizen Digital said the deceased – Joel Kaberia – who was a butcher went missing on Friday night.

Fellow butchers who were reportedly waiting for payments from him stated that they decided to search for him at his house after missing him on phone for the better part of Saturday morning.

Mr. Kaberia’s wife, 22-year-old Bridget Gacheri, informed the butchers that she had not seen her husband since Friday night when he allegedly stormed out of the house following a domestic disagreement.

The agitated butchers however – suspicious of Gacheri’s story – conducted a citizen’s arrest and took her to Meru Police Station.

They then went back to the deceased’s house, broke the door and discovered his body parts stashed in a sack and others such as legs scattered around the bedroom before alerting the police.

Confirming the incident, Imenti North police boss James Githinji said two suspects – including the deceased’s wife – are presently being held as investigations into the gruesome murder continue.
