Popular mental health advocate Philip Muoki over the Easter weekend undertook a symbolic and physically demanding climb of Mount Kenya, as a statement on the urgent need to address men’s mental health.

Setting off in the early hours of April 4th, at 2:00 AM, Muoki, who also is the Event Director of the Men’s Wellness Summit, was joined by a group of climbers ascending toward Point Lenana battling freezing temperatures, physical exhaustion, and the mental strain that accompanies high-altitude climbs, with the journey mirroring the often unseen and unspoken struggles that many men face daily.

Narrating the experience on his official Instagram page, Muoki detailed the arduous experience, noting how he braved the cold, the extreme draughts and the freezing temperatures to ascend the historic summit.

He wrote: "Torches were strapped to our foreheads. Hiking poles were gripped tightly in frozen hands. One step after another, we moved through the darkness as though we belonged to it."

"The cold was merciless. The climb was steep. Our bodies were tired, and at many points, giving up felt like the most reasonable thing to do. But we kept going. Step by step. Breath by breath. By 6:30 AM, we reached the summit.... "

The men's mental health advocate also noted that the climb was not merely about reaching the summit, but achieving something greater.

“This climb was not just about reaching the summit,” Muoki noted. “It was about confronting the internal battles that many men silently carry—fear, pressure, expectation, and isolation.”

The climb, he stated, celebrated men not only as providers and protectors, but as individuals capable of vulnerability, emotional awareness, and growth.

"Our reward was: A fulfilled soul. A pause in time. A moment frozen forever in history and in our minds. A moment of pure joy. Pure pride. Pure becoming. For a brief, sacred second, the mountain gave us proof that we could keep going..." he wrote.

Muoki's initiative aligns with the 2026 Men’s Wellness Summit theme, “Gentle Giant,” a concept that seeks to redefine masculinity.

As the mental health advocate and his team descended from the summit, the message was clear: the journey to mental wellness, much like climbing a mountain, is not meant to be walked alone.

"Sometimes, the greatest victories are not the ones seen at the peak—but the silent battles won along the way," he said.

Proud of having actualized the dream, which he promised himself on January 1 2026, Muoki expressed his relief at having made the remarkable achievement, despite the insurmountable challenges.

"In that moment, none of the pain mattered. Not the cold. Not the struggle. Not the hours of climbing through darkness. What mattered was that we were there. Standing at the summit. Alive. Present. Victorious."

He added: "Sometimes to find yourself, you must first be willing to climb through the dark."

The climb has sparked conversations ahead of the Men’s Wellness Summit 2026, which aims to create safe spaces for men to engage in open dialogue around mental health, financial wellness, leadership, and personal development.
