Mbaraki Stadium is ready for use following a nine-month renovation project. The stadium, home to Bandari FC, popularly known as The Dockers, was initially closed in March for a six-month facelift. However, the renovation period was extended to nine months.

During the closure, Bandari FC hosted their home matches at the Mombasa Sports Club before relocating to the Ukunda Showground.

Bandari FC CEO Tony Kibwana expressed optimism that the revamped stadium would boost the team’s quest for their first Kenya Premier League title.

“We now have an excellent playing surface. Teams coming to face Bandari FC should be ready because our style of play will thrive on the new smooth pitch," said Kibwana.

“Our fans will also be more comfortable as we are installing 1,200 seats and creating a VIP area. I am confident our visitors will be delighted to experience the improved Mbaraki Stadium,” he added.

The stadium, which has been upgraded to meet international standards, is set to host the opening match of the 2024 East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Games between Kenyan and Ugandan MPs.

Kibwana highlighted the stadium's expanded dimensions: “We are fortunate as Coastarians. Previously, the stadium measured 99 by 68 meters, but it now meets international standards with dimensions of 105 by 68 meters.”

The renovation project, spearheaded by the Kenya Ports Authority in collaboration with the National Government, included installing a state-of-the-art athletic tartan track, which is nearing completion.

According to reports, Bandari FC will resume playing at Mbaraki Stadium immediately after the conclusion of the EALA Games on December 18.
