Matu crowned NewGen golf champion as tournament numbers double

Patrick Matu emerged the overall winner of the fourth edition of the NewGen Golf Tournament, edging out Nathan Njuguna on countback after both players finished level on 36 points at the Windsor Golf Club last weekend.

The one-day event, which brought together 120 golfers from the banking and insurance sectors, marked a significant milestone for the tournament, with participation numbers doubling since its inaugural edition in 2022 when only 60 players took to the course.

Matu's victory was decided by the narrowest of margins, with the countback rule coming into play after he and Njuguna could not be separated on points. The runner-up settled for second place despite matching the winner's score.

In the men's category, M. Kubo claimed top honours with an impressive 41 points, fending off a strong challenge from Stanley Gachoki, who finished as runner-up. Kubo's score was the highest individual tally of the day across all categories.

The ladies' competition saw Anna Meingi dominate the field with a winning score of 38 points. 

Her victory was particularly emphatic as she comfortably outpaced pre-tournament favourite Millicent Mello, who had been tipped to win but settled for second place with 39 points.
