Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang'i on Wednesday held a consultative meeting with members of the Linda Mwananchi group led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

The meeting, held at Matiang'i's Karen home, comes ahead of a planned western Kenya tour by the political faction.

The meeting focused on strengthening strategic coordination within the United Alternative Government.

Further, Matiang'i said the meeting sought to align strategies between the two opposition camps as they look to build a 'credible, principled, and people-centered' alternative ahead of the 2027 General Election.

This comes ahead of the planned homecoming ceremony for Sifuna, set to be held on July 26 in Bungoma.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya earlier said Sifuna's homecoming ceremony will be attended by leaders from Western Kenya and the united opposition camp.

“On the 26 we will be in Bungoma for a homecoming. All our tribes will be there and all our Luhya community leaders. Also, all the council of elders and different organizational leaders will be present in Bungoma," said Natembeya

In early July, Natembeya announced that local leaders will spearhead Sifuna's grassroots mobilization across all 38 constituencies in Western Kenya.

The Matiang'i-Sifuna meeting comes amid speculation of a split within the opposition, even as recent opinion polls placed the duo on the same popularity index.

Sifuna's popularity continues to rise after he fell out with his former political outfit ODM, where he was kicked out as Secretary General and Senate Deputy Minority Whip.

He has since embraced Linda Mwananchi, where, together with other like-minded leaders are now pushing for the presidency.
