Matiang'i accuses Ruto of interfering with political parties, says Kenyans want choices

Speaking at Olerai Dominion Church in Narok County, Matiang’i said Kenyans want to have a choice of leaders and accused the government of interfering with political parties and multiparty democracy.

“You don’t want to trouble all of us so that you remain the only candidate. Kenyans want choices, and we are ready to give Kenyans leadership,” Matiang’i said.

The former Interior Minister also accused the government of using public resources and government institutions for what he described as propaganda and political interference.

"In my entire life a government using resources and time on propaganda like this government is doing. Even independent institutions are being used to intimidate people, interfere with political parties and multiparty democracy," Matiang'i said.

He confirmed that Richard Moitalel ole Kenta remains the Secretary General of the Jubilee Party, amid what he described as interference in political parties.

Matiang’i urged President Ruto to stay out of Jubilee’s affairs, saying the party had previously been in government without interfering with other political parties.

“We have a plan as Jubilee. We were in government and we did not interfere other political parties," he added.

He cited the formation of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which was formed when Ruto was Deputy President under the Jubilee administration.

On the opposition’s efforts to unite ahead of the 2027 election, Matiang’i said Jubilee was committed to working with other opposition leaders to present a united front.

He acknowledged that agreeing on a single presidential candidate would not be easy but said opposition leaders will have to make sacrifices and remain patient.

“I am not going to pretend here that it's easy. We will sit under a shed or call the elders and let you know who we have picked. It requires a lot of sacrifice, patience na and we will continue discussing,” he said.

He called on the opposition to work together to avoid disappointing Kenyans, echoing remarks by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, who was also present at the church.

Matiang’i was accompanied by Nyoro and Siaya Governor James Orengo during the church service.
