Matano praised his side’s response after conceding an early goal, highlighting the players’ focus and improved execution in the second half as key factors behind the victory.
“We are pleased with the result and the character the team showed, especially after conceding early. The players remained focused, responded well and took their chances in the second half. These are important three points, but we must remain consistent and continue improving as we look ahead to our next fixture,” said Matano.
The Bankers were forced to chase the game after Rashid Moyo put Mombasa United ahead early on. Congolese striker Assis Mambote restored parity with a close-range finish, ensuring the teams went into the break level at 1-1.
KCB returned from the interval with greater determination, and substitute Fortune Omoto made the difference, scoring twice in the second half to complete the comeback and secure all three points.
For Matano, however, the result is only part of the bigger picture, with consistency and continued improvement remaining central to the team’s ambitions this season.
The victory lifted KCB to second place in the FKF Premier League standings, with seven points from four matches, although their position remained subject to the outcome of Thursday’s fixtures.
Captain Humphrey Mieno echoed the coach’s sentiments, stressing the importance of building on the performance while maintaining discipline and focus.
“We showed great character to come from behind and secure the three points. The focus now is on maintaining this momentum, staying disciplined and preparing well for our next challenge. Every match matters, and we know we must keep working hard to achieve our objectives this season,” said Mieno.
KCB now turn their attention to a challenging away assignment against Gor Mahia at Moi Stadium in Embu County on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
